A Note on the Rose Essential Oil

The only preparation in this collection that contains rose essential oil is the Rose Body Oil, where it is used in an exceptionally small amount to gently enhance the natural aroma of the triple-infused rose petals.

Rose essential oil is one of the most precious botanical extracts in the world. It is estimated that it takes approximately 3,000–5,000 pounds (1,400–2,300 kg) of fresh rose petals to produce just one kilogram of essential oil. That means a single drop represents the distillation of dozens of blossoms - often estimated at 30–60 roses per drop, depending on the variety, growing conditions, and distillation yield.

Because of the immense amount of plant material required, I work with rose essential oil very differently than I do most aromatics. I don’t use it casually or generously. I use it with deep reverence, intention, and gratitude for the incredible abundance of blossoms that made each drop possible.

In truth, I’ve owned the same small bottle for nearly four years, and for much of that time it has remained unopened. To me, it is less an ingredient than a sacred botanical treasure.

My intention with this collection was never to rely on essential oil for fragrance. The true heart of these preparations comes from the fresh Rosa rugosa petals themselves - patiently harvested, slowly infused, and lovingly distilled. The touch of rose essential oil and absolute simply honors and gently amplifies the beautiful aromatics already present, allowing the spirit of the rose to shine a little more brightly.
